The Concept :

 

Design of the Mahatma Mandir Convention cum Exhibition Centre has been inspired from and reflects the life and philosophy of the Father of the Nation- Mahatma Gandhi; reflecting the prosperity of Gujarat.

 

Mahatma Mandir is a convention cum exhibition centre and a memorial located at sector 13, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India. It is inspired from life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi. Its planning and designing is environment friendly. It is one of the biggest convention centre of India spread over 34 acres. It was developed by Government of Gujarat. Business meets like Vibrant Gujarat Global Investor Summit 2011 and 2013 were organised here.

 

Features :

 

  • The complex site is spacious enough to handle swift movement of up to 15000 people.
  • The convention hall has seating capacity of 6000 seats undivided with VIP viewing gallerias.
  • There are 4 seminar rooms (3 with seating capacity of 500 Persons each and 1 with seating capacity of 1000 Persons)
  • There are 2 of large size and 1 medium size exhibition centers.
  • Seven hi-tech conference halls and a modern meeting room
  • Three Exhibition halls with column free structure
  • Large foyer housing ATMs, Travel Desk, Food Court, Photo Gallery etc..
  • The planning and design is done as per green construction technology, through use of materials of construction, structural design and services.
  • All waste water treated & recycled for flushing, irrigation, etc.
  • Street lights on hybrid renewable energy.
     

History :

 

Mahatma Mandir was built by L&T (Larsen & Toubro) in two phases.

  1. Phase 1: It constructed in nine months starting from May 2010 to January 2011 at cost of rs. 135 crore. It includes a convention centre, three big exhibition halls and small halls having conferencing facility.
  2. Phase 2: It includes construction of salt mound memorial, a garden, a suspension bridge, wind mills and development of parking space at cost of rs. 80 crore.


Government of Gujarat wanted to develop Mahatma Mandir as a place of unity and development. Sand was be brought in urns by representatives of all 18,066 villages of Gujarat and emptied it in the foundation of the Mahatma Mandir. Time capsule was buried under Mahatma Mandir containing history of state.


Amenities of Mahatma Mandir


There are many Amenities in the Mahatma Mandir like Convention Centre, Memorial, and Central vista.

  1. Convention Centre: A convention centre has column free air conditioned halls with capacity to accommodate over 15000 people at a time. Its theatre style main hall have capacity of 5000 people. Exhibition halls are built over 10000 sqft area. It has four seminar halls, seven hi-tech conference halls and a modern meeting room.
  2. Memorial:A memorial dedicated Mahatma Gandhi will be constructed. A suspension bridge will be built in memory of the Dandi March. A concrete dome structure representing salt mound will house a museum, library and research centre. A sculpture garden with stone murals depicting the life of Mahatma Gandhi will also developed. A grand spinning wheel, Charkho, will be installed also.
  3. Central Vista: 162 meter wide and 3 km long road connecting Mahatma Mandir and Gujarat Legislative Assembly building was constructed. It has three lanes on both side with gardens between them. It is a broadest avenue in Gujarat.
